Spectacular Success for Transition Year Production of Dancing Queen: The Musical
Millstreet Community School was alive with music, energy and excitement last Thursday and Friday night as our Transition Year students took to the stage for their production of Dancing Queen: The Musical.
From start to finish, the show was a spectacular success, showcasing the incredible talent, dedication and teamwork of our students both on stage and behind the scenes. The performances across both nights were outstanding, with audiences treated to an unforgettable production filled with music, drama, comedy and fantastic stage performances.
A huge thank you must go to Emma Norton for her extraordinary dedication, commitment and hard work throughout the entire production process. Her passion, energy and commitment were evident in every aspect of the show and played a huge role in delivering such an outstanding production.
Special thanks also to Soundtrax for the excellent stage production, lighting and sound, which added enormously to the professional quality of the performances.
A sincere word of thanks to our TY Co-ordinator, Shane Guerin, for the tremendous work, organisation and support provided throughout the entire process. Coordinating a production of this scale requires countless hours behind the scenes, and Shane played a hugely important role in helping keep everything moving smoothly from rehearsals right through to performance nights. His encouragement, guidance and commitment to the students helped create a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
A huge thank you also to Paula Coakley for the enormous amount of work, time and dedication given to the production over many weeks. Paula played a central role behind the scenes, supporting students, helping with organisation and ensuring that so many of the smaller details came together successfully. Productions like this depend on people who quietly put in huge work behind the scenes, and Paula’s contribution was absolutely invaluable in helping deliver such a memorable show.
The greatest praise of all must go to our incredible TY students. What they achieved across the two nights was simply outstanding. From the confidence shown on stage to the professionalism, teamwork and positivity displayed throughout the entire process, the students represented themselves and the school community exceptionally well. Productions like this require months of rehearsals, dedication, patience and hard work, and the effort put in by the students was evident in every scene, song and performance.
It was especially encouraging to see students step outside their comfort zones, take on new challenges and grow in confidence throughout the experience. Whether performing on stage, working backstage, helping with staging, costumes, music, lighting, promotion or organisation, every student played an important role in making the production such a memorable success. The atmosphere, energy and school spirit created over the two nights reflected the tremendous teamwork and friendship developed throughout the process.
These are the kinds of experiences that students will remember long after they leave school — experiences that build confidence, resilience, friendships and lifelong memories.
We also wish to pay special tribute to our Principal, Pól Ó Síodhcháin, who was heavily involved throughout the production and whose support, encouragement and hands-on contribution helped make the show such a success. Throughout his years in Millstreet Community School, Pól has always placed huge importance on creating opportunities for students to experience school life beyond the classroom, and productions like this are a reflection of that commitment. His belief in student participation, creativity and school spirit has had a hugely positive impact on the culture of MCS and on the experiences provided to students over many years.
A huge thank you also to every member of staff who contributed in any way to the success of the production — whether through rehearsals, organisation, staging, supervision, costumes, promotion, ticket sales, music, set preparation or supporting students throughout the process. Productions of this scale are only possible through tremendous teamwork and commitment across the entire school community.
A truly unforgettable production and a fantastic celebration of student talent, creativity and school spirit in MCS. 👏🎭✨
