TY Students Complete European Awareness Programme

Transition Year students at Millstreet Community School recently completed the final session of the ICEP programme, which focused on promoting awareness and understanding of Europe and European affairs.

Over the course of the year, students participated in a number of engaging sessions exploring topics connected to the European Union, citizenship, current affairs, community development and opportunities for young people across Europe. The programme encouraged students to think critically, engage in discussion and gain a broader understanding of Ireland’s role within Europe.

As part of the concluding session, the school was delighted to welcome Maura Walsh, CEO of IRD Duhallow, along with Kathleen Funchion, Sinn Féin MEP. Both speakers shared valuable insights with students on European issues, community initiatives and the importance of youth engagement in society.

The visit provided students with an excellent opportunity to hear directly from people working at both local and European levels and to reflect on the importance of active citizenship and community involvement.

Millstreet Community School would like to sincerely thank Maura Walsh, Kathleen Funchion and everyone involved in delivering the ICEP programme throughout the year. Well done also to all TY students for their excellent participation, enthusiasm and engagement.
