TY Students Engage in Creative Wire Sculpture Workshop

Transition Year students recently took part in a creative engagement workshop led by professional Irish artist Glenn Gibson. Glenn is based in Castlecomer and is widely recognised for his intricate wire sculptures, particularly his Connemara hawthorn pieces inspired by the natural landscape.

The workshop introduced students to the fundamentals of wire sculpture, allowing them to explore form, structure, and texture through hands-on making. Using simple materials and guided techniques, students developed individual sculptural pieces while learning about observation, patience, and the creative process.

Glenn’s work is rooted in themes of interconnectedness and the natural world, and these ideas were central to the workshop experience. Students were encouraged to slow down, engage thoughtfully with materials, and consider how natural forms can be interpreted through art.

The session provided a valuable opportunity for TY students to engage with a professional practising artist and to experience a creative process outside the traditional classroom setting. It supported the aims of the Transition Year programme by promoting creativity, problem-solving, and personal expression.

The school would like to thank Glenn Gibson for delivering an inspiring and engaging workshop that left a lasting impression on students.
