MILLSTREET COMMUNITY SCHOOL RECOGNISED FOR ITS COMMITMENT TO GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

Students and teachers at Millstreet Community School have been recognised by WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) for their commitment to Global Citizenship Education (GCE) during the 2025/26 academic year. The school has been awarded a Higher Diplomatic Global Passport, recognising its work to embed Global Citizenship Education across different areas of school life.

As part of their GCE journey, students and teachers at Millstreet Community School explored global justice issues including migration, unconscious bias, gender equality and racism. The Global Passport supports education settings to develop, strengthen and sustain a whole-setting approach to Global Citizenship Education. It recognises the work already taking place while helping education settings identify opportunities to deepen their practice.

The school was among over 180 education settings across the island of Ireland recognised through the WorldWise Global Schools Global Passport this year.

Dr Katie Chapple, Programme Director of WorldWise Global Schools, said: ‘The Global Passport provides an opportunity for post-primary education settings to recognise the work they are already doing in Global Citizenship Education and to identify opportunities to deepen and strengthen this work. The commitment demonstrated by education settings this year is a wonderful reflection of the important role GCE plays in helping young people become active and informed global citizens.”

What is WorldWise Global Schools?

WorldWise Global Schools (WWGS) is Irish Aid's national Global Citizenship Education programme for post-primary education settings on the island of Ireland. WWGS supports education settings to embed GCE through training, funding, resources, guidance and the Global Passport Framework.
