MCS Wows Audiences with Spectacular Production of Grease

Millstreet Community School's Transition Year students lit up the stage last week with their vibrant and high-energy production of Grease: The School Edition, delighting record-breaking audiences across three outstanding performances.

Months of preparation culminated in a trio of shows that showcased the incredible dedication and talent of the TY cast and crew. Among the highlights was a special matinee performance for local primary schools, which saw over 350 young students fill the auditorium—many enjoying their very first live theatre experience.

At the helm of the production was Emma Norton, a passionate and accomplished musical theatre performer from Newmarket, Co. Cork.  A long-time student of Centre Stage School in Mallow, she trained extensively in singing, dance, and drama, achieving distinctions in her LAMDA exams and landing lead roles in acclaimed productions like Les Misérables and Shrek the Musical. Known for her professionalism, talent, and infectious energy, Emma brought both heart and precision to the role of Musical Director.

She was ably supported by Ms. Paula Coakley, a dedicated teacher at Millstreet Community School, whose guidance and enthusiasm played a pivotal role in shaping the students’ performances.

Professional staging, lighting, and sound were provided by Soundtrax, transforming the school venue into a dazzling theatre space. Behind the curtain, a huge team of staff and parents worked tirelessly to bring the production to life—building sets, designing costumes, managing props, applying makeup, and ensuring seamless venue coordination.

The school also extends heartfelt thanks to all local sponsors for their generous donations to the raffle and spot prizes, which added excitement and community spirit to each night’s event.

Principal and staff alike praised the students for their commitment and creativity, with many already calling this year’s musical one of the highlights of the year. The success of Grease is a testament not only to the talent of the Transition Year students but also to the incredible teamwork and support of the entire Millstreet Community School community.
