Archie Settles into Life at Millstreet Community School 🐾
It has been a busy first couple of weeks for one of the newest members of the Millstreet Community School community — Archie, our new Autism Assistance Dog.
Archie joined us at the beginning of the new school year and has wasted no time settling into school life. Trained by Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, Archie is part of their School Support Dog Programme and will play an important role in supporting students and promoting wellbeing and inclusion throughout the school.
Our in-school handlers have also been receiving training from Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, with TY students Julia and Jasmine getting involved and quickly becoming very comfortable working with Archie.
Already, Archie has become a very familiar face around the corridors and has proven extremely popular with students and staff alike. Of course, even school support dogs need some downtime, and Archie has been making the most of his days off too — including the occasional walk and swim in the river!
We are extremely fortunate to have Archie as part of MCS and look forward to seeing him continue to settle into his new surroundings and become an important part of everyday school life.
Judging by his first few weeks, he has certainly made himself at home! 🐕🐾
