MILLSTREET COMMUNITY SCHOOL RECEIVES WORLDWISE GLOBAL SCHOOLS PASSPORT FOR THEIR WORK IN GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION (GCE)
Students and teachers at Millstreet Community School have earned a national award for their work towards creating a better world. They received a Global Passport from WorldWise Global Schools for their participation in the programme during the 2024/25 Academic Year.
The Global Passport recognises the school’s work exploring global issues such as migration, racism, inclusion, and sustainability.
To earn the passport, students and teachers have studied the root causes of global injustices, raised awareness and taken action as global citizens to create a better future. During the past year members of the Transition Year GCE class helped co-ordinate a number of activities. These included the annual Language and Culture Week and the Celebration of Culture and Inclusion. They also engaged with younger students through workshops they ran that explored gender equality, unconscious bias, the causes of migration and the importance of being an ally with anyone who experiences racism. They also ran a survey of languages and nationalities, and a school-wide quiz called, ‘the world in our school’.
Alex Forth-Tobin was part of last year’s TY GCE class and played an active role in all the activities the group were involved in. When asked what the highlights were for her she explained, “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with other members of the TY GCE class on workshops such as ‘Showing Racism the Red Card’ as well as taking part in the Celebration of Culture and Inclusion. I was one of the three MCs for the night. It was great to witness firsthand traditional song and dance from different cultures represented in our school being performed.”
Dr. Katie Chapple, Programme Director of WorldWise Global Schools, said, ‘This year’s achievements have been nothing short of remarkable. The work of each school is a testament to the passion, creativity and commitment to global justice and human rights. Congratulations to all educators and students on making a real difference in our global community.’
The TY GCE of 2025/2026 have met and are already busy planning projects and activities for the coming year.
