MCS Golfers Tee Off at World Schools Championship in Scotland
Day One of the World Schools Golf Championship has begun for Millstreet Community School’s talented golfing octet, accompanied by their teacher, Mrs. Radon. The group of Rory, Cian, Mark, Ronan, Danny, Alan, Labhras, and Oisín set off early from Dublin Airport on Monday morning, full of excitement and determination as they travel to Scotland – including a visit to the iconic St Andrews, known as the home of golf.
Their first challenge was the Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, a parkland course steeped in history as the sixth oldest in the world and originally designed by James Braid. The 18-hole course, a Par 70 stretching 6,254 yards, presented plenty of variety and character. One of the standout features, the 14th hole aptly named “The Gully,” promises to test every golfer’s skill and nerve.
In the shotgun start, each MCS golfer took to their designated tee: Rory on the 1st, Alan on the 2nd, Cian on the 3rd, Ronan on the 4th, Danny on the 10th, Labhras on the 12th, Oisín on the 13th, Mark on the 17th, and Mrs Radon herself on the 18th – ensuring the whole course was covered.
The team are proudly wearing their specially sponsored shirts and jackets, thanks to the generous support of Avonmore Electrics. Live commentary and updates from the 14th hole will keep supporters at home connected to the action throughout the day.
Principal thanks go to Ms. O’Donoghue and Mrs. Radon for accompanying and supporting the group on this exciting international journey.
🌍⛳️ Best of luck to our Millstreet golfers as they compete on the world stage – the entire community is behind you! 🏌️♂️
