To mark Douglass Week, members of our TY GCE class have planned a lesson for each first year tutorial which has been delivered online with the support of their English teachers (Mr Horan, Mr Healy and Ms O’Shea). Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) was an escaped slave from North America who travelled to Britain and Ireland in the 1840’s to seek support for the campaign to abolish slavery in his homeland. He spent four months in Ireland in 1845, gave fifty speeches and left a deep and lasting impression. He met and was inspired by Daniel O’Connell. His dedication to the cause of justice has been an inspiration to many over the years including those working for inclusion and acceptance of all and against racism. The TY students involved were: Anna Moynihan, Lauren Kelleher, Emma Lehane and Esfir Connolly.

This activity was part of the school’s commitment to cross curricular global citizenship education, supported by World Wise Global Schools.
