Millstreet Community School Hosts Cork County Council Road Safety Roadshow

Thursday, 8th October 2026

Millstreet Community School was delighted to host the Cork County Council Road Safety Roadshow on Thursday, 8th October, welcoming students and staff from Boherbue Comprehensive School to join us for this important and educational event.

The roadshow aimed to raise awareness among young people of the importance of road safety and the potentially life-changing consequences of road traffic collisions.

The event opened with an address from Caroline Casey of Cork County Council, followed by an informative presentation from Garda Orla Doyle, who highlighted the importance of responsible behaviour on our roads.

One of the most powerful moments of the day came from guest speaker Mark Dalton, who shared his personal experience of a road traffic accident and the impact it had on his life. His story provided students with a thought-provoking reminder of how quickly life can change and the importance of making safe decisions as both drivers and passengers.

Students also heard from representatives of the emergency services and HSE, who provided valuable insights into the challenges faced by those responding to road traffic incidents.

The event concluded with a live outdoor road traffic collision demonstration in the school car park. Students witnessed how emergency services respond to a serious collision, gaining a greater appreciation of the skills, teamwork and professionalism required in such situations.

Millstreet Community School would like to sincerely thank Cork County Council, An Garda Síochána, the HSE, the emergency services and all the guest speakers who contributed to making the event such a worthwhile experience.

We were also delighted to welcome our neighbours from Boherbue Comprehensive School and thank their students and staff for joining us.

The roadshow delivered an important message to all students about the responsibility we share in keeping our roads safe and the lasting consequences that a moment's inattention can have on individuals, families and communities.
