Noel Buckley, chair of Millstreet Community Council, visited the school on December 13th to meet the six BT Young Scientist groups who are heading to Dublin in January. The Community Council, represented by Noel Buckley, Mary Collins, Jerry O’Mahony and Marie Murphy, also presented €500 towards the expense of this initiative. “We see supporting exciting opportunities like the Young Scientists as part of our role in the community“, explained Noel. “This is a great chance to develop skills and help discover where future career strengths might lie.” Mr O’Síodhcháin expressed his gratitude for their support, not just this year, but over the entire duration of the school’s interest in the BT Young Scientists. This is the 10th anniversary of the school’s involvement in the Young Scientists, begun by Mr Guerin in 2009, with over 40 research projects conducted by students over the years.

This has added a new dimension to the pupils’ learning experience, as they direct their own learning through research in areas that interest them and develop key skills along the way.
